The Makeup Training Academy offers new and existing makeup artists a place to develop and grow their skill set. A career in makeup artistry can lead in many paths; the retail or wedding industry, film, Television, Fashion, or print photography. All of these areas require a thorough knowledge of both application, color, and the medium in which you are working.

Level 1 Beauty MakeupRegister

Level 1 is for new and beginning makeup artists or artists who need to build their technical skill in order to further their careers. Focusing on application and the science behind it, each day combines both lecture and theory with practical work. Students will begin applying makeup day one. During the 2 week course students will learn the application of a complete Beauty makeup on any skin-tone, on any face, with an understanding of light and color theory, proper hygiene, makeup products, and getting started in their career.

Added Features

Model Friday: On the last day of class students will have an opportunity to work with a professional fashion model, work on set and have their work photographed by a professional photographer.

Working Lunch: Two days per week students are invited to bring their lunches and sit in on various career topic discussion. These times are dedicated to discussing the various aspects of a career in makeup artistry. Topics include: Working in Retail Cosmetics, Marketing and Getting Started, and Working on Set.

The Level 1 course is approximately 70 hours over a two week period, meeting Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Smaller classes will wrap earlier). Students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the class. See our schedule. (There is no legal certification in the State of Texas.)



Level 2 Advanced Beauty MakeupRegister

Level 2 is for new artists who have completed some training, and existing artists looking to further their skills and grow. Level 2 takes the basic skills and theory of makeup artistry and intensifies them, giving students a well rounded understanding of makeup for all mediums. Where Level 1 focuses on application techniques and theory, Level 2 focuses on utilizing those theories in the workplace. Students will focus on corrective makeup for the face, makeup for men and ethnic skin, translating fashion into makeup, and application techniques for bridal, print, film, and everyday. Level 1 Cirriculum

Week One - Makeup as Craft, Tools, Hygiene, Skin Depth and Tone, Applying Foundation, Color Matching, Concealing, Finish, Light Theory, Skin Anatomy, Basics of Skincare, Brows, Color Theory, Covering Tattoos.

Week Two - Application of Cheek Color, Lips, Lashes, Basic and Dramatic Eye Treatments, Smoky Eyes, Eye Lining, Natural and Dramatic Looks, and Model Friday.

*Although each day mixes both study, theory and practical work, students will spend most of their day doing makeup. Students will work on each other during class as this allows them to both practice and observe. Students will receive a full outline and MTA L1 Training Manual first day of class.



Level 2 Cirriculum

Week One - Corrective Makeup for Face, Eyes, Brows, and Lips, Makeup for Men, Dark Skin and Color Correction, Makeup for Ethnic Skin, Airbrushing, Translating Fashion into Makeup Styles.

Week Two - Makeup Techniques for Bridal, Makeup for Black/White Photography, Makeup for Print/Film, Super Natural and High Fashion Makeup, Creating "Looks" and Translating onto the Face, Model Friday.

*Level 2 is primarily practical with study mixed in each day. Students will work on each other during class as this allows them to both practice and observe. Students will work out of their MTA L2 Training Manual which they will receive day 1.

**At the end of each course students will be given a certificate of completion. Levels 1 and 2 fulfill the requirements for licensing in the state of Louisiana. Texas does not require a license for makeup artists.
